“기생충” 아카데미상 4개부문 석권...92년역사 최초

Korean film “Parasite” changes American Oscars history

자본주의 계급사회의 빈부 격차의 모순과 갈등 그리고 사회심리적 갭을 적나라하게 비꼬아 풍자한 한국영화 <기생충>이 아카데미 오스카상 영화제 92년 역사에서 비영어권 출신국 작품이 최고의 작품상을 (Best picture) 비롯해 최고의 감독상, 최우수 시나리오상, 최우수 국제 출품작(Best director; Best original screenplay; Best international feature) 등 4개 부문 시상 범주에서 모두1등상을 수상했다. (Parasite won four awards in total)

한국영화역사의 기원으로 보면, 1919년 10월 27일 단성사에서 김도산(金陶山)이 제작한 연쇄극 (連鎖劇, Kino-Drama, 영상이 수록된 연극) [의리적 구토 (義理的 仇討)]가 상영된 지 올해로 101년 맞은 해에 경사가 났다.



아카데미 시상식을 휩쓴 <기생충>의 의미에 대해서 서울신문 고광헌 사장은 페이스북을 통해 다음과 같이 풀이한다. “박근혜 정권에 의해서 이념적 적을 만들어내려는 사악한 의도로 조작된 문화예술인 블랙리스트에 좌파로 낙인찍힌 봉준호 감독과 소위 ‘빨갱이' 영화를 지원한다는 누명을 쓰고 국외로 추방 당해 망명생활을 하면서도 기생충을 제작한 이미경 CJ 부회장의 숨은 공이 컷다. 예술과 예술인들의 상상과 창작열은 그 어떤 이유로도 탄압해선 안 된다는 교훈을 <기생충>의 쾌거가 역설적으로 보여줬다”



아시다시피, 흔히 오스카 어워드(Oscar Awards)로 불리는 아카데미상은 미국의 가장 권위 있는 영화 시상식이다. 아카데미 시상식은 국제영화제가 아니라 미국 국내의 영화상이며, 칸느, 베를린, 베니스등의 국제영화제와는 달리 미국 작품을 대상으로 한다. 그러나 일전에 봉준호 감독이 “국제영화제가 아닌 미국 만의 ‘로컬’ 영화제 상인 오스카 어워드 수상에는 별 욕심이 없다”라고 인터뷰에서 밝힌바 있는데 이를 의식한듯 이번 오스카 심사위원들이 비영어권 국제출품작인 한국의 “기생충”에 몰표를 준게 아니냐하는 우스갯소리도 나왔다.

한국산 “기생충”영화의 사회비판적 풍자 메시지는 오늘날의 자본주의사회를 냉정하고 팍팍하게 살아가는 전세계 대중들로부터 공감을 이끌어 냈다. “기생충”의 오스카 수상식 쾌거로 인해서 아카데미 영화상이 이제부터 미국만의 오스카상을 넘어 공히 권위있는 칸느, 베를린, 베니스등의 국제영화제 급으로 격상된 실질적 의미도 매우 크다 할것이다.

Bong Joon-ho won best director and best original screenplay as well as best picture
South Korean film Parasite has been named best picture at this year's Oscars, becoming the first non-English language film to take the top prize.

Renee Zellweger won best actress for playing Judy Garland in Judy. Joaquin Phoenix won best actor for Joker.

Brad Pitt and Laura Dern won the supporting acting awards for their roles in Once Upon A Time in Hollywood and Marriage Story respectively.

The World War One epic had been the favourite to win best picture, but its awards all came in the technical categories.

Parasite's historic night
Parasite's Bong Joon-ho beat Sir Sam to the prize for best director, and also took the best original screenplay award.
The film is a vicious social satire about two families from very different classes - one who live in poverty in a semi-basement, and another rich family residing in a large home.
It has now managed what no other subtitled film has done in the 92-year history of the Academy Awards and won best picture.
Producer Kwak Sin-ae, who collected the trophy, said: "I'm speechless. We never imagined this to happen. I feel like a very opportune moment in history is happening right now."
